Penang is renowned as a food paradise in Malaysia and i bet many of you have heard of Penang char kway teow; however, char kway teow is just one of many good-eats on the island state! Today, my focus is on chendol and this particular street stall was said to be the most popular, judging from the queue it attracts.

The stall name might appear kitsch but in that area, everyone is aware of its fame although for future expansion, this kind of name would be hard to patent and some competitors have already started using similar sounding names to draw in confused tourists.

Just look out for the queue and if you prefer actual location, the street vendor is located along Lebuh Keng Kwee, right next to Joo Hooi Cafe. Don't fret about the long queue; the service was fast unless you suay-suay encounter an asshole ordering 20 at one go!

My bowl of chendol, named and pronounced as chendul in Penang, that cost RM 2.70 (approximately S$0.90). Noted visual differences from our Singapore version; watery without the generously piled up crushed ice and why was there hardly any gula melaka!?

One sip of the chilled coconut milk and you would forgive the lack of palm sugar as it was so thirst quenching! The green jelly strands were not as nice as the cendol at Changi Village although i was pleased with the generous serving of red kidney beans which added a layer of addictive texture as i gulped down the dessert!

In my haste to soothe my throat in that hot weather, i forgot to stir and watched in horror when i am halfway through the bowl as the gula melaka was hidden right at the bottom!

Additional Information
You may eat and even order the chendul in Joo Hooi Cafe; as i am not sure if the cendol stall was part of the cafe, i actually order some dishes within the cafe as well.

At a competitor right opposite, we spotted the above poster marketing a chendol stall that's right here in Singapore! Well, you can give it a try if you are craving for Penang style cendol.
