Its legacy is legendary and although i wasn't too happy with what i had about ten years ago, i figured it's about time i should give River South Prawn Noodle a re-try after mum spontaneously requested for something soupy yesterday.

The formidable Makansutra even gave it six chopsticks; a die die must try verdict! However, please do read my food philosophy; everyone's different and tastes do vary.

First thing upon stepping into the non-air-conditioned premise; go straight to the stall and order first. Finding seats should be a lower priority!

After making payment, hold on tightly to your token, find a seat and stay attentive to your surrounding; the staff would holler your number once food is ready.

The wait in my case was about twenty minutes for our big prawns noodles (small portion) with thick beehoon. Note: a good bowl of prawn noodles must have that slightly reddish tinge!

Broth was intensely flavoured with the cholesterol-rich prawns (said to be simmered over a period of at least 24 hours) but my heart remained with the one from Albert Street Prawn Noodle; which had a sweeter taste. Mom thought otherwise and opined that the latter put in too much rock sugar and authenticity wise, River South had a better edge.

Oh well, one man's meat is another man's poison. One thing we both agreed was the freshness of the decently sized prawns that was conveniently de-shelled except for the head and tail.

We cleaned up everything, down to the last drop!
p.s. this was brunch for me at 2pm.
