Gua Cherita - The Interesting Yet Quiet Cave of Legends @ Kilim Geoforest Park in Langkawi [Kedah, Malaysia]

The boat drew closer to a place in Langkawi that's said to be full of legends and that intrigued a man who has always been fascinated with the worlds lesser known; be it paranormal, mystical and / or fairy tale like.

It was quiet and deserted of humans; it didn't help there was a seemingly abandoned jetty that was in urgent need of funds for repair and maintenance.

We were brought here to check out something inside; gua cherita (also known as the cave of legends)! With a relatively modern staircase, i wonder how people in the past managed to climb all the way up.

There's no caretaker and the place wasn't well taken care of. I did notice it wasn't featured highly on the mangrove nature tour and listed only for the 4-hour tour. Right now at the tour website, the cave wasn't even mentioned.

Can't even make out of the words.

This plaque was clearer and gave a brief information about the cave of legends but it didn't mention further than just ancient inscriptions of verses from the Koran, the battle of bird birds and the kidnap of a princess from China.

Climbing up for a better look as i don't spend money just to "touch and go"! Frankly, the cave did command a relatively good view of the Andaman Sea ahead of us.

Disused jetty.

Information about the natural colours in the cave; usually, it's about the mineral composition. That's the reason why some hot springs can have colours ranging from black to ocean blue.

I am surprised i got this high up! The problem is going down and i knew just the right way to reduce the fear in me. Adopting the same stance i did at Yangshuo; sit down and make my way down!

Interior of the cave that's illuminated by spotlights on the floor.

It's like a small room and even came with a bed that's relatively smooth. Well, that's where the legend about the kidnapped princess came about as she would need a nice looking bed. The fact that it's hard would make it relatively uncomfortable to sleep on but i guess the legend would include silk mattress top, a blanket and maybe one or two soft pillows that would have disintegrated with time.

Me standing on the 'bed' and taking a photo for you to have a perspective on the size of the cave. I would done a bit more of exploration; however, there's a pest that was protecting the place from intruders. The bloody mosquitoes!

My two travel mates had abandoned me and knowing my fear for the unknown (more snakes than anything else) in a strange place; i quickly hastened my steps.

Spotted what i appeared to be hornet nests on the ceiling! Another fear i had, although not as bad, was towards the hornets as i was stung pretty badly when i was serving my national service and had to be hospitalized for observation.

The jetty again; in my personal opinion, it's way more hazardous to use it! Let's continue disembarking and boarding using the traditional method; right from the beach!

Let's go!
